Produced from 1976 to 1979 the 500 Sport is considered to be the company's most costly mistake. Although the bike was a product of sound engineering, it was result of unsound market research.

The motor had a bore and stroke of 78x52mm, compression of 9.6:1 and maximum rpm of 8500.
